Using the NOAO Mosaic CCD camera, we have carried out BVRI imaging of 6 sq. degrees in and around the CNOC2 Field Galaxy Redshift Survey, in order to obtain a well-calibrated photometric-redshift sample of some 40000 R < 21.5 galaxies. We will describe our photometric redshift techniques, which are tested in detail using an extensive set of 2000 CNOC2 spectroscopic-redshift calibrators. We will also describe our luminosity function (LF) estimation methods, which are used to recover unbiased estimates of LF parameters in the presence of photometric-redshift errors. Finally, we will present results on using our photometric-redshift sample to constrain galaxy evolution, specifically the measurement of luminosity and density evolution rates for the LFs of different galaxy populations at intermediate redshifts z < 1.
