The paper presents results of the mathematical modeling of the conditions of the MASSA experiment, involving the investigation of the effect of a shock wave produced by a ground explosion on the lower ionosphere. The propagation conditions of a radio wave with a frequency of 2 MHz in the presence of the shock wave were assessed. A 0.26-kT blast was found to generate a shock wave with a mean velocity of 370 m/s and a length of 370 m at a height of 70 km.
