The letter reports the detection of two diffuse IR objects within the S 119 emission region near the North American nebula. The objects were discovered on image-tube photographs taken in the I system (0.92 micron) using a 123-cm telescope. The first object has a distinct core and halo, looks like a distant galaxy, and is very similar to Maffei 1. The second object has a faint halo and a somewhat irregular core; it is suggested that this object might be an obscured globular cluster or another galactic object, but the interpretation as an extragalactic system is not ruled out.
