The paper deals with the study of current-driven instabilities in inhomogeneous space plasma exciting lower-hybrid-drift waves. Within the nonlinear theory of electrostatic flute instabilities an expression for the anomalous collision frequency is obtained containing the energy spectrum of the waves as a parameter. In the special case of the plasma of the Earth's magnetopause a collision frequency of (0.03 - 0.3) Hz is found which may cause substantial resistivity enhancement even in the vicinity of the neutral sheet with large plasma-beta.
