The nature of the differences in chemical abundances between binary and single stars is discussed. A more intense transfer of nuclear reactions' products from the central regions of the binary stars to their surfaces is suggested as the cause for the differences observed. The limits of possible variations in the abundances of elements in the stellar atmospheres due to mixing processes are estimated.
