Satellite data for the interplanetary magnetic field (IMF) during 1963-1978 are analyzed in order to determine annual variations of the correlation of the Bx and Bz components in the GSEQ, GSE, and GSM systems. It is shown that, on the average, the magnetic field configuration of the solar wind is symmetic with respect to the solar equator. The IMF lines of force lie in the solar-equator plane; above or below this plane they diverge to the north and south, respectively, from a radial direction toward the sun. The divergence is insiganificant, since the occurrence of annual variations in the Bz component in the GSE and GSM systems is determined by the inclination of the ecliptic to the planes of the solar equator and the earth equator.
