This report covers, for the period 1946-47, staff and organization, observing conditions, research activities, the library and a bibliogrpahy of published work. The research activies discussed are solar research (photography, sunspot activity, sunspot polarities, flares, prominences, solar spectrum, curves of growth, oxygen abundance, solar absorption coefficients, solar-terrestrial relations), planetary investigations (Jupiter's satellites), stellar investigations (photoelectric photometry, visual magnitudes of novae including T Coronae Borealis and Nova Puppis, visual magnitudes of double stars and variable stars including HC Her, angular diameters from occultations), stellar spectroscopy (radial velocities, long period variables including Omicron Ceti, other stars including R And and Chi Cygni, eclipsing variable stars including RW Tauri, Eta Aquilae, T Coronae Borealis, Upsilon Sagittari, Wolf-Rayet stars, Be stars, magnetic fields of early-type stars, interstellary lines), galactic nebulae and star clusters (planetary nebulae , Orion Nebula, the galactic nucleus and its variables), extragalactic nebulae (photoelectric magnitudes and colors, relative motion of the Galaxy, a survey of the Andromeda Nebula, spectra inlcuding radial velocities, supernova in NGC 3177), and laboratory investigations (transition probabilities, spectrum of Dysprosium, fluorescence excitation, instrument development).
