The Uppsala (northern sky) and ESO/Uppsala (southern sky) galaxies both show a definite anisotropy in the orientation of their apparent major axes. Galaxies of different apparent magnitude, angular size, and morphological type are considered. Several arguments indicate that the anisotropy probably in a real effect. In the preferred space-orientation model, the normals to the galaxies' planes would all be coplanar with some given plane but otherwise randomly oriented (the cylinder model). Most likely the anisotropy stems from outlying regions of the Local Supercluster, although it could be of still larger scale.
