The possible existence of a local anisotropy in dense matter has been taken into account in the numerical computations of the general-relativistic collapse of configurations like white dwarf stars. The authors have modeled the microphysics by means of a given anisotropic law (Bowers and Liang's law) and a polytrope having an index which varies with density.
