We report statistically significant galaxy-QSO cross-correlations due to gravitational lensing between the APM galaxy catalogue and the Hamburg-ESO Bright QSO Survey, on angular scales of up to 1 degree. By dividing QSOs into redshift bins, the strength of the galaxy-QSO cross-correlation was found to be dependent on redshift, with the strongest correlations occuring at roughly twice the mean redshift of the galaxy sample. In order to demonstrate the significance of the galaxy-QSO cross-correlation signal, we generated 100 random quasar catalogues and computed cross-correlations with APM galaxies. Using this technique, we show that the signal was detected with better than 98% significance at a redshift between roughly z = 0.6 - 0.9. The strength of the signal is several times greater than that predicted by models of lensing by large scale structure.
