The paper discusses the amounts of helium and hydrogen burned in successive helium-shell flashes, computed over the peak flash phase, over the total flash cycle, and over the quiet, interflash phase. It was found that the assumption of stationary shell burning is violated by the helium-shell flash for the first few flashes; after 15 flashes coincident with the leveling out of the peaks of the helium shell, agreement is attained with stationary shell burning. In addition, it was found that the amounts of helium and hydrogen burned remained approximately constant around the maximum of each flash cycle, but around the minimum of the cycle, the mass of hydrogen remained constant, while that of helium became smaller as the flash strength increased.
