The Euler-Poinceau model of unperturbed motion is used to determine the orientation of an earth satellite from measurement data. This model is used because it is a good approximation of the true motion of an unstabilized weakly perturbed passive satellite, and also because it is inscribed in a finite form, which enables one to avoid numerical integration of the equations of motion and thereby increase the rate of data processing.
