We present a discussion on the shape of a fundamental pulse in a GRB light curve. As has been previously noted by Ryde et al. the shape is dictated by the spectral behavior during the pulse. We review this analysis and expand it to also include the rise phase. We discuss two alternative analytical descriptions; the proposal already made by Kocevski & Liang and a variation of this.
