A filter function can provide continuity in analytical representations of planetary atmosphere profiles. Each height region of the atmosphere is assigned appropriate coefficients which do not depend on conditions outside the region. The region, if of high similarity in content such as found in an ionosphere, can then be sectioned with limits defined by maxima and minima and the profile calculated as a linear function of the transition between two maxima with one minima in between. The Epstein (1930) functions are employed to define conditions at specific heights.
