The variations in the light curve of the W UMa system U Peg were investigated. A total of nine photoelectric BV light curve observations obtained by different authors from 1950 to 1983 were analysed with the Wilson-Devinney program. The results show that there may be a starspot cycle with the period ≥28 years. Assuming that the mass ratio q and the inclination i had no substantial changes during the time interval examined, the photometric solution for each of nine BV light curves reveal that the temperature difference between two components as well as the overcontact degree of the common envelope of U Peg appear to have some fluctuations which also influence the variations in the light curve of U Peg.
