In the present attempt to analyze the spectra of NGC 7606's SN 1987n spectra over a period of 10 days from the time of maximum brightness, a standard, simple model of spectral synthesis is first used which involves a high uncertainty in the abundance determinations obtained. A novel analysis is then developed on the basis of a model which, although based like the standard model on Sobolev's approximation, nevertheless allows for a more realistic continuum treatment. This analysis is found to point to a significant attenuation effect on the radiation in the lines, due to continuum scattering which can also affect the abundance determinations.
