An analysis is made of the height and semitransparence of the sporadic E layer above Ashkhabad (39 deg N) for conditions when this layer is formed by tidal-wind shear and when vertical profiles of the mean air density are practically invariable. The vertical phase velocity of the tide, and the seasonal variation of turbulence intensity and turbopause height are determined. In the 100-150 km layer, tidal modes with anomalously large vertical wavelength (phase velocity greater than 15 km/h) have been found which are not comparable with classical tidal modes.
