Some general problems are discussed that may be encountered in the design and construction of large-diameter optical telescopes, using interferential measurement and automatic adjustment of primary mirrors composed of a number of elementary mirrors. Structural rigidities are determined for elementary-mirror mountings for which no measurement or adjustment of the elementary mirrors is required in a direction normal to the optical axis of the telescope.
