Deviations in the orbital inclination (nominally 62.25 deg, with an initial perigee of 475 km, apogee of 543 km, and orbital period of 94.8 min) of Cosmos 248, launched in October 1968, are studied for the purpose of providing accurate values of eccentricity for use in determining the odd zonal harmonics in the earth's gravitational potential. It is found that deviations correspond to an average cross-track distance of 100 m, and perigee deviations on the order of 30-120 m. These values indicate an amplitude in eccentricity oscillation of around 0.00433 plus or minus 0.00001.
