A sample of galaxies has been compiled, with published catalogues of H II regions forming the basis for subsequent studies of the H II region distribution in spiral galaxies. The problem of the deprojection of a galaxy image as seen on the sky is addressed. Two methods to do this, based on the H II region distributions themselves have been devised and applied to the sample. The results are compared with the ones obtained using several other methods. The new methods are capable of obtaining good values for the position and inclination angles of the galaxies.
