A soft X-ray excess (SXE) sample is constructed from the sample of strong soft X-ray QSOs of Wilkes and Elvis (1987) (WE sample) by selecting those with column densities NH less than the galactic column densities NHG. The spectral indices alpha0.3 at 0.3 keV are determined for the sources in the sample. It is found that SXEs are sources common in the We sample and that most of them are also strong SXE sources. From the NH values of the 20 sources in the present SXE sample, a correlation is discovered between the NH - NHG value with the X-ray luminosity and with the optical luminosity. A correlation is discovered between the NH - NHG value and the X-ray luminosity and the optical luminosity. This shows that the main contribution to the NH = NHG value is from the intrinsic absorption by the gas in QSOs.
