The recent release of version 2.0 of the AtomDB atomic database contains major updates, notably adding data for elements not previously covered, extending the range of levels included for existing lines, and now including previously unhandled processes such as state-selective recombination and inner-shell excitation.
A young supernova remnant, SN1897a is brightening in X-rays at an accelerating rate. It has been regularly observed by the Chandra HETG and LETG, and as such provides a strong source of data on a time-varying, ionizing plasma. We use these observations in combination with the new version of AtomDB to search for markers of a strongly ionizing plasma, such as as inner-shell excitation of Li-like ions and fluorescence lines. We also search for traces of elements formed in supernovae but usually ignored in astrophysical plasmas due to their low abundances, such as sodium, phosphorus and chlorine, which have all been added in this version of AtomDB.
