The magnetic reconnection in the corona is generally believed to be responsible for the energy release and particle acceleration in solar flares. The hard X-ray (HXR) kernels are thought to locate at the conjugate footpoints of newly reconnected magnetic field lines. In this study, the motions of RHESSI HXR footpoints together with the ribbon separations observed by Hα/EUV are used as the chromospheric signatures to analyze the evolution of coronal field reconnection. The electric field in the reconnecting current sheet is deduced from the magnetic flux change rate in the areas of HXR footpoints and Hα/EUV ribbons. In our calculations, the peak of reconnection electric field for an X-class flare can be up to the order of 10 keV/m. Besides, the spatial and temporal relationship between the reconnection electric fields and the HXR emissions will also be addressed and discussed here.
