Previous work devoted to interpreting the spectral line profiles of PHL 5200 is summarized, and a modification of Sobolev's escape probability method is used to calculate the profiles of spectral lines formed by resonant scattering in an extended expanding envelope around a source of continuum radiation. In contrast to the earlier work, it is proposed that the expansion rate of the envelope decreases with increased distance from the nucleus, which allows better agreement between theory and observations. Assuming a radius of 5 pc and gravitational attraction by the nucleus as the cause of the envelope's deceleration, the mass of the quasar is calculated as about 5 times 10 to the 10th power solar masses.
