The ratio of energy losses of the proton and electron components of cosmic rays in the galactic spiral structure is found to be close to the ratio of the energy densities of these components, and this correlation is attributed to collisions between cosmic rays and interstellar gas in the spiral arms. The total output of cosmic-ray sources in the galaxy is estimated as 2 by 10 to the 39th power erg/sec. It is argued that the outflow of cosmic rays from the galaxy is insignificant and that more relativistic protons are generated during supernovae explosions than relativistic electrons. It is suggested that the electron component of cosmic rays is most likely injected by pulsars while the proton component may be generated in the shells of supernovae remnants. Detection of a stream of hard gamma rays from supernovae remnants, above all from Vela X, is regarded as the most important task of gamma astronomy. The absence of gamma radiation from the galactic spur is taken as evidence that this object is probably not a supernova remnant.
