A model is presented that divides the anomalies of the variable
geomagnetic field, observed on the surface of the spherically
inhomogeneous earth, into surface anomalies and deep anomalies. The
inhomogeneous surface layer of the earth is approximated by Dmitriev's
thin conducting layer (1969).
