One hundred seventy-three historical Chinese records of occultations and appulses obtained between 146 BC and 1761 AD are examined. Comparison with previous ephemerides and planetary theory verifies that all of the well-recorded events occurred, and usually on the recorded day. The records indicate that to the accuracy of these observations there are no serious flaws in the presently accepted planetary theories or methods for determining the rotational deceleration of the earth.
