Scientific paper

In this work the authors analyse the X-ray properties of the clusters of galaxies Abell 2199 and Abell 2197. Particular emphasis is put on the search for evidence of a physical relation between both clusters. In an area of 4°×4° around the pair of clusters the authors search for X-ray emissions assuming the possible existence of hot gas associated with the Hercules supercluster. For both clusters they determine the surface brightness, intra-cluster gas temperature, luminosity, mass, central cooling time and morphological properties. The X-ray data consist in ROSAT PSPC pointed observations and ROSAT All-Sky Survey data. The authors also compare the X-ray morphology with two different galaxy distributions: galaxies coming from the APM catalog and the sample selected by Gregory and Thompson (1984).
