The author derives an exact upper limit for the growth rate of any unstable mode of a polytropic, non-self-gravitating torus rotating with constant specific angular momentum. He also derives a lower limit for the ratio of real to imaginary parts of the complex frequency of the mode. These results depend only on the slenderness of the torus and the azimuthal wavenumber m of the mode.
