An unsuccessful search for the strong resolution line of Ca at 4226.73 A is reported. The derived upper limit on Ca(I) along with abundances from other meteoritic atmospheric components and comparison to solar system and chondritic abundances are given. The abundance derived at Mercury is 1.5 x 10 exp 9/sq cm, above the present upper limit of 7.4 x 10 exp 8/sq cm. An atmospheric column abundance of 7.5 x 10 exp 8 Ca atoms/sq cm is estimated by assuming a volatization efficiency for Ca production of a factor of 100 less than that of Na, weighted by number. An ionization time of 3000 s at Mercury is calculated on the basis of the cross sections of Ditchburn and Hudson (1960) and solar flux from Allen (1973). By way of comparison, the lifetimes of Na and K at the same distance from the sun are 5100 and 3500 s.
