The discovery of an unusual radio point source near the southwestern boundary of the giant complex nebula M17 is reported. The source was detected in VLA observations at 21, 6 and 2 cm with a maximum resolution of 0.7 arcsec to lie between the arc-shaped ionization front and a molecular cloud. The optically thick thermal spectrum and diameter of the source indicate that it is among the densest thermal radio sources known, with an electron density greater than 1,000,000/cu cm, and has an unusually high electron temperature (greater than 25,000 K). It is suggested that the point source may be an instance of star formation induced by a partially focused shock front preceding the ionization front into the molecular cloud.
