Telescopes: Aberrations
Scientific paper
An uncentered two-mirror system, in particular an objective with a spherical principal mirror, is considered for oblique incidence of a parallel beam on the sphere. The exact profile of the secondary mirror is calculated from the stigmatism condition in the meridional plane. Compensation of sagittal aberration is shown to be possible by a surface formed by a rotation of the meridional profile about an axis, the location of which is found by an iteration method.
