We propose to map a 1 sq. deg region of the Galactic Plane simultaneously in the two strongest Class I methanol maser lines, the 36.1 GHz and 44.1 GHz transitions. This survey will produce a statistically complete, unbiased catalog of Class I methanol sources, which when cross-identified against infrared surveys such as GLIMPSE and the UKIDSS Galactic Plane survey, radio continuum surveys such as CORNISH and methanol Class II maser surveys will provide a strong probe of the evolutionary status of the exciting sources and the relationship between Class I and Class II methanol masers. If, as has been suggested, Class I masers do indeed trace less evolved sources than Class II masers, then this survey could identify some of the youngest high mass sources known. Mapping a large area ,and hopefully identifying a significant sample of sources, is essential for identifying the youngest sources due to the rapid evolution of young massive protostars.
