The UV spectrum of galaxy NGC 5253 was analyzed using IUE images. The spectrum of the nucleus shows a very blue continuum with several absorption lines typical of early-type stars. The presence of the C III 1910 A and C II 2326 A nebular emission lines indicates that the effective temperature of the ionizing stars cluster must be greater than 35,000 K. The spatial analysis of the images reveals the presence of several knots in agreement with optical observations. The comparison of the UV spectra with theoretical models of evolution of a cluster of young stars shows that either the UV extinction law is intermediate between the galactic and the Large Megellanic Cloud one, as expected in a metal-poor system, or that the UV extinction is lower than the value derived from the Balmer decrement.
