We report results from a ~ 30 ks simultaneous RXTE and ASCA observation of the Seyfert 1.9 galaxy MCG-5-23-16. This observation was performed on 1996 November 29, and is part of a campaign to monitor the reprocessed X-ray flux in the form of Fe Kalpha line emission and Compton reflection. The 2-10 keV photon index (Gamma = 1.83), absorbing column density (N_H = 1.63 x 10(22) cm(-2) ), and time-averaged flux (F_X ~ 7 x 10(-11) ergs cm(-2) s(-1) ) are similar to those obtained during the ASCA AO-1 observation in May 1994. However, the RXTE data allow us to unambiguously detect Compton reflection in this galaxy for the first time and we find Omega /2pi ~ 0.8 assuming reflection from a face-on accretion disk. Simultaneous fitting of the RXTE and ASCA data places tight constraints on the hard X-ray continuum, which in turn allow us to model the Fe Kalpha line profile with confidence. We confirm the presence of a broad Fe K component that was detected during the ASCA AO-1 observation. The time-variability of the Fe K line profile is investigated.
