The spectroscopic instruments aboard Mars Express have brought important new contributions to our knowledge of the Martian atmosphere: thermal structure, distribution of dust and clouds, monitoring of minor gaseous species, search for new species. In particular, occulation measurements with SPICAM have been used to retrieve the thermal vertical structure and the vertical distribution of ozone; water vapor has been mapped using SPICAM, PFS and OMEGA; the thermal structure and the vertical distributions of aerosols and clouds have been retrieved using PFS; non-LTE emissions of CO2 have been observed from limb observations of OMEGA and PFS; the detection of methane, with apparent local variations, has been reported by PFS. All these results will be reviewed, intercompared and discussed with respect to other space and ground-based observations.
