A system designed to make observations of interplanetary scintillations at ultrahigh frequencies (327 MHz) to complement those made in the VHF range (69 MHz) is presented which would allow the monitoring of the solar wind at radial distances from 0.1 to 1 AU. The system is based on a network of three asymmetric parabolic cylindrical UHF antennas located at Fuji, Sugadaira and Toyokawa, Japan, and linked by telephone lines. The antenna feed system consists of low-noise preamplifiers followed by phase shifters combined in an X-mas tree branching system. The receiver consists of a two-stage preamplifier, a ladder-type phase shifter and LF section with background filtering and automatic gain control. Phase and gain calibration are performed by comparing the phase and amplitude of output signals from two adjoining channels supplied with the same test signal. Observations are microprocessor controlled, and data acquisition is controlled by a minicomputer located at the host station at Toyokawa.
