The ready and prompt availability of high cadence GONG magnetograms provides a unique opportunity for space weather services. Using these longitudinal magnetograms we have investigated the utility of several full disk solar magnetic indices for the purpose of space weather forecasting. A magnetic gradient index, an inversion gradient index and total magnetic flux have been compared to solar flare production. We report on their usefulness in predicting total flare rates.
