The theory of adaptive arrays used in radio communications, radar systems, television, and radio astronomy is presented. The discussion covers the fundamental principles of adaptive arrays, mathematical formalisms used in adaptive array synthesis and analysis, and methods for optimizing the quality of adaptive antenna arrays. Attention is also given to the fundamentals of adaptive array synthesis, noise characteristics of adaptive arrays, increasing the resolution of adaptive arrays, and simplified adaptive antenna array systems.
