A scenario for the evolution of the solar system is described which accounts for the present distribution of angular momentum. Before entering the main sequence, the sun while undergoing gravitational contraction lost most of its angular momentum, but the bulk of matter ejected by the sun did not enter the nebulous disk. The planetary material already possessed enough angular momentum, and did not need the sun to transfer angular momentum to it.
