The results of a program of ground-based near-infrared (1-4 microns) photometry are presented for stars in the line of sight to the Chamaeleon II dark cloud centered near alpha = 13h 00m, delta = -77 deg (1950). Ground-based data are combined with IRAS results (including those from the Serendipitous Survey Catalog) to investigate the nature and evolutionary status of the sample. Ten stars identified by Schwartz as pre-main-sequence objects on the basis of optical emission lines are shown to have infrared spectral energy distributions characteristic of classical T Tauri stars with luminosities in the range 0.1-1.3 L solar luminosity. The deeply embedded source IRAS 12496-7650 appears to be at an earlier evolutionary phase.
