The Sharpless 2-148 and 149 regions were explored at 2.2 microns, and a bright point-source (17 f.u.) was detected at the northern rim of Sh 2-149. Within guiding errors this infrared source is shown to coincide with an extremely red star-like object on the POSS prints. We have obtained further photometric (.55-3.4 microns), spectroscopic and polarimetric observations of this object. We interpret these in terms of a highly reddened hot star which could be the exciting star of the Sh 2-149 region.
