Results of comparison of the observed profiles of 4571 A magnesium line
with the calculated ones based on the photosphere models of cool stars
with and without chromospheres are presented. It is shown that profile
of this line can be used as an indicator of the star's chromosphere, but
cannot be applied for analysis of its structure.
