The Ariel V Experiment C has been used to observe NGC 4151 in 1976 December. A hydrogen column density of 1.8 times 10 to the 23rd atom/sq cm was measured, four times larger than that reported by Ives, Sanford, and Penston (1976). This column density change is sufficient to explain the previously reported variability in the 2-10 keV energy range and indicates that the X-ray emission originates in the central area of the nucleus. An iron absorption edge is seen and an iron abundance relative to other heavy elements of 2.1 + or - 1.4 times the solar value is measured.
