We introduce an improvement on the star-pair method for determining the field distortion of a telescope. Our version is theoretically strict, it overcomes the short-comings of the traditional method and many star-pairs from one plate can be used for determining the distortion coefficients. Preliminary results of an application for the twin photographic telescope of Purple Mountain Observatory are presented.
