An improved, hybrid trial function is presented for the solution of radiation transfer by Galerkin's method. The trial function compensates for the effects of the particular solution corresponding to the inhomogeneous source term. This method is especially useful when only the profile of the source function, but not the particular solution, is known. The method of analysis will be demonstrated for a source function having a polynomial profile.
