A new precise optical position in the FK4-system has been obtained for the quasar 3C 273B which has been recommended as the R.A. zero point in radio astrometric work. The new position of 3C 273B is based on eight plates from a 23-cm astrograph and a 60-cm refractor. About fifty secondary reference stars have been selected in the quasar field. These were adjusted to the FK4-system by 34 AGK3RN stars as the primary reference system present in the astrograph field of 6 x 6 deg. The mean error of the position of a single reference star derived from these eight plates is plus or minus 0.05 arcsec. This figure contains a zeropoint transformation uncertainty to the FK4-system of 0.03 arcsec. The results obtained are compared with available radio position catalogs.
