The characteristics of the two main categories of image photon counting systems (parallel output and serial output) are briefly reviewed. A modified image photon counting method is then described. It is based on a pattern recognition logic and as such is truly bidimensional. In the presented version, the flexibility of a previous model, aiming at the simultaneous detection of adjacent events was exchanged for a better adaptability to the observed pulse width distribution function. The logical circuitry is described as well as the pulse analyzer. Illustrations are given of the results obtained.
