Time-dependent infrared spectral changes were investigated for one-monolayer Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) films of 2-alkyl-7,7,8,8-tetracyanoquinodimethane (alkyl-TCNQ) on gold-evaporated glass slides and CaF2 plates. Significant intensity increases were observed with time for bands due to both the alkyl chain and TCNQ plane in the infrared reflection-absorption (RA) spectra of the LB films of dodecyl-, and pentadecyl-TCNQ while most of bands in the infrared transmission spectra of the LB films of the same compounds showed time-dependent intensity decreases. Time-dependent spectral changes in the ultraviolet-visible region were also measured for the one-monolayer LB films of pentadecyl-TCNQ.
