The abnormal flat-top feature observed by Gu et al. (1981) and Hu and Cao (1982) in the eruptive loop prominence following the large limb burst of 0720 UT, April 27, 1981, is investigated. The geometry of the H-alpha loop is examined, and the position of the 3-cm emission source (which exhibited abnormal absorption at the time of the loop-prominence flattening) is considered. It is proposed that both phenomena are caused by collisional damping in a cloud (of thickness 10,000 km and electron density 10.9 times that of the active region) passing over the front of the H-alpha loop.
